East King County

Programs and funders will jointly sponsor winter shelter on the eastside, open 8:30 pm to 7:30 am. Space is first-come-first served.

  • Women and Families winter shelter will open on 22nd, located at Salvation Army (911 164th Street, Bellevue)
  • Men’s shelter will open Nov 22nd,located at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church (17222 NE 8th Street, Bellevue) Capacity is 50

Volunteers are needed to assist with meals or to help check folks in and get settled (typical hours: 8:30 – 10:30 pm). Contact Barbara Woontner, logistics coordinator at wintershelter@sophiaway.org, or 425-417-4815.

Seattle

Men’s Shelter – KC Administration Building – 500 Fourth Avenue between Jefferson & James
Open every night November 1st through April 15th
Line up for the shelter takes place in the park across 4th Avenue just south of the courthouse and Jefferson Street. The King County Administration Building is at 500 4th Ave, between Jefferson and James streets in downtown Seattle. The shelter is open at 9:00 p.m. every night and has capacity for 50 men.

Women’s Shelter – YWCA Angeline’s Center for Homeless Women - 2030 Third Avenue, Belltown, third Ave between Lenora and Virginia
Open every night October 1st through March 31
To access the Women’s Winter Response Shelter, stop by Angeline’s between 6-9pm stop by and register with Women’s Referral Center. After 9pm drop-in or call (206) 436-8650 to see if space is still available. Open to women 18 years and older. The shelter has capacity for 40 women a night.

The Frye Shelter for Women: October 1, 2011 through March 31st, 2012.
The Frye Shelter serves women and is located at 3rd & Yesler in the community room of the Frye Hotel from 8:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Women may be accompanied from the Women’s Referral Center or may go directly to the shelter.

City Hall Shelter - Coed: October 1, 2011 and will remain open each night through March 31st 2012.
The City Hall Shelter is located at 4th and Cherry (enter through the red doors) and serves adult men and women. The shelter opens from 8:30 PM to 7:00 AM. People should not arrive before 8PM.

Emergency Weather Shelter: During extreme weather conditions additional shelter will be opened. Notification of emergency weather shelter openings will be available through the 211 Information Line and through media sources.

South King County

City of Kent: Will activate a Severe Weather Shelter (SWS) at Kent Lutheran Church on evenings when dangerously low temperatures or severe weather is predicted. City of Kent will announce when the shelter is open or you can contact City of Kent Housing and Human Services at (253) 856‐5070. Priority is given to homeless families with children who are living on the streets or in vehicles, but the SWS will also be available for single women and men. The SWS will be operated by Catholic Community Services staff, and volunteers from Kent Lutheran Church and the Kent community, and located at Kent Lutheran Church, 336 2nd Ave S, in Kent. Check-in and registration is at 9 pm, and the shelter closes and clients must vacate at 7 am.

Auburn: The severe winter shelter at Les Gove Park and Memorial Park in Auburn will be activated when temps fall below freezing over night or when severe weather is predicted. Space at each location will be approximately 30 – 35 cots and hosts will serve some light snacks and beverages. Mike Hursh with the City of Auburn is the key contact at (253) 804-029.

Renton: Harambee Church at 316 South 3rd St., Renton, WA will open to provide winter shelter when freezing temperatures and/or severe storms are predicted. All populations are welcome, and the shelter can serve 50 maximum. Contact Terry Higashiyama at City of Renton 425-430-6600 for more information and for opening information.

Federal Way

  • Reach Out Men’s Shelter will open nightly starting Nov 1st thru March 31st. The shelter serves 25 men maximum each night, and is run by CCS. More information at (253) 854-0077.
  • CCS will also open a Women’s Shelter on January 1st which will run nightly thru March 31st. It will hold 15 women maximum.
  • New Hope Church at 31411 6th Avenue South, opens a severe weather shelter during freezing temps and snow for all populations. Contact Pastor Rick at (253) 269-6585
